Debates Club: Breaking stereotypes about Russia and America.

Debates Club: Breaking stereotypes about Russia and America.

Just about every nationality has its share of stereotypes. People seem to take some simple traits that people from a specific country may have, exaggerate them and then call them stereotypes. Stereotypes and generalizations about two our countries exist, but is all the information correct. Sometimes there is truth in a stereotype, and it makes a good image of the group of people or country, but many times the stereotype can also hurt reputation. Russian stereotypes on Americans and vice versa are no different. Just as cultural stereotypes have persisted in the way Russians view Americans, the same is true in the way Americans view Russians. We will try to determine what kind of common stereotypes that people in Russia have about Americans and opposite. How and why the stereotypes began and whether there is some truth behind them. What is a nature of the “old” stereotype?  Is it still actual now? We will learn more about people’s stereotypes and will try to change opinions in order to create a better understanding about Russia and the United States. The goal of our debate is to keep an open mind as we will undertake “breaking actions” to effectively contradict and challenge the odd stereotypes and images that people usually have, and begin to replace these images with more positive ones. Let’s discuss it! All Welcome to participate on Friday, March 25, at 7 pm.
