Debates Club: Polemic about Art – Cinema vs Literature

On our next consecutive meeting we will continue to discuss a subject of motion picture art in context of literature novels and their film adaptations. The narrative and representational aspects of film make it a wholly unique form of art. Moreover, the cinema is unique in that it is a highly accessible social art form. At the heart of movie and novel debate lies a paradox on one side as they are dramatically opposed as “words” and “images” also formally and culturally but on the other side, novels and films are integrally related as reciprocal arts sharing formal techniques, audience and values. We will compare Hollywood, European and Russian cinema traditions in novels screen adaptations. At long last we will cross our swords for a chance to pick the best movies of all times. Let’s argue! But we will consider that dispute — is a form of art itself. All Welcome to participate on Wednesday, January 20 at 7 pm.
