The Hero’s Journey

«A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself» – Joseph Campbell

Every once in a while, detached from the vortex of our mundane and petty problems, we wonder what is the meaning of our life. Our mind races through all the important stages and tries to find an element that will help us reclaim our uniqueness and serve as a shelter in the times of struggle. Yet, however extraordinary we consider ourselves to be, the very fact of belonging to the human family and, more broadly, to the realm of life, makes it inevitable for our lives to unfold according to a certain story, or scenario, engrained deeply in our psyche and the collective memory of our race. During this session, drawing on the findings in anthropology, comparative religion studies, psychoanalysis and art theory, we will examine what is the common blueprint of human destiny as we find it across the rich canvass of myths, literary plots, films and other cultural artefacts as well as our own individual dreams and lives. Please join us on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m., in our attempt to demystify science and uncover how it helped shape our civilization and us! Led by Alex Martya.
