“The Godfather” – a crime drama, a modern tragedy or a social critique?

This movie directed by Francis Ford Coppola and released in 1972 is commonly considered one of the most influential American movies and one of the greatest films in world cinema. For a period of time it was also the highest-grossing picture ever made. During our meeting we will make an attempt to go deeper into the movie’s meaning and find out if there is something else behind the façade of this famous and successful gangster saga. We will try to analyze the film’s plot and dramatic structure in order to understand what the author of “Apocalypse Now” and “Conversation” is actually telling us with this one. You may want to watch/re-watch this movie before attending the discussion. Please join us for our upcoming Club meeting on Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m. Meetings are held in English.
