Film Club: Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey”

The first 25 minutes of this feature contain no dialogue. Nor do the last 23 minutes. 241 people walked out of the auditorium during its premier screening. MGM was planning to withdraw it from theatres shortly after its release. Were they right? Or is Stanley Kubrick’s enigmatic “2001: A Space Odyssey”, which eventually became the highest-grossing North American movie of 1968 and considered today one of the most influential films ever made, indeed among the most significant artistic utterances in the history of cinema? We’ll try to talk about it at our next meeting on Thursday, May 19 at 7 p.m. You are strongly recommended to actually watch the movie before attending the discussion. Film Club Presenter – Dmitry Leonov, will host this event. Meetings are held in English.
